Some great finds from this past weekend. Lots of duffels. The 2 in the last picture are for my permanent collection - the one on the right is Vietnam era and documents everywhere the soldier was stationed.

I have a soft spot for old athletic uniforms so was overjoyed to find that Falcons top for such a bargain. And the last photo is of a Klein tool bag that Aaron found at an estate sale last week.. possibly my favorite tool bag of all time.

Had a couple nice finds this weekend while on a quick trip to NH.
Favorite of the bunch was this Vietnam era USN G-1 flight jacket in great condition.

Also .. if you follow me on Twitter or Instagram I'm sure you've seen me talk kind of non-stop about my new juicer and how incredible it is. Well, it's true. I hemmed & hawed for years about getting one and finally took the plunge. It's increased my quality of life by a million. Here's some orange/grapefruit/apple/ginger juice I made the other day when I felt a cold coming on.

Francesca just did a blog post where a few great ladies talk about something nice that helps get them through winter. Of course I ramble on about juicing. But take a look at the post here.

Hope everyone had a nice holiday! I spent a few relaxing days in New Hampshire with family & a whole bunch of cute dogs. Also my brother brought a copy of Science Ink where his tattoos are featured (I tattooed those snow plows on his chest).

Above is a photo of the beautiful new studio work table Aaron got out of an old machine shop, sanded down, made a steel base for & gave me as a Christmas present. Pretty incredible how just a table can make working so much more enjoyable.

Made a custom monogrammed key fob for a recent customer and am considering putting them up in the shop for sale. Currently these tags come included with every leather bag .. but it might be nice to have them customizable & up for grabs separately.

Also there will be a shop update this coming Thursday (1/5) in the afternoon. Will post preview photos and more details in a few days. Have a great New Years Eve!

Happy 29th birthday today to my love!

To celebrate we spent the weekend in the Berkshires. Stayed at the Porches (where they will deliver you breakfast in a tool box), had an incredible meal at Mezze, went to Mass MoCA, and did some exploring around North Adams, the town where my Dad's side of the family lived & worked. All in all, a wonderful weekend away.

Now time to get back to work!

TRIP PT 4: OLYMPIC PENNINSULA

Realized that I forgot to post the photos from the last part of our West Coast adventure back in October. We spent a couple of real incredible days on the Olympic Peninsula.. hiking around in the Hoh Rainforest, exploring the beaches. And also just happened to come across my dream place to stay, Lochaerie. A cabin resort from the 1920's that's been kept up perfectly. Each cabin has its own wood stove and many look out over Lake Quinault. I couldn't have dreamt up a more perfect place to stay. If you ever find yourself on the Southwestern side of the Olympic Penninsula, I highly recommend spending a night there.

I wanted to take a little step away from Forestbound related topics just to talk about something else that's going on in my life that's real important to my family and I.

My two brothers and I are running a marathon in the spring to raise money & awareness for the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFD). AFD is a non-profit organization committed to promoting research into these debilitating neurodegenerative diseases. AFD also educates about frontotemporal lobe dementias and provides support for those affected and their families.

We've decided to raise money for the AFD because our Dad, Arpiar G Saunders, has been diagnosed with a semantic dementia. Semantic dementia is a specific type of frontotemporal lobe dementia which attacks the brain circuits underlying speech. In addition to interfering with communication, semantic dementia can also cause other pathological changes in behavior.

So, if you are considering donating money to a charity this holiday season we would love to have your support! Any amount you are able to donate would be truly appreciated by & family and I.

A few favorite finds from this past weekend.

Always a sad time of year when flea market season starts to wind down. But I found this gem yesterday and it brightened my spirits X 10000. Not sure who originally made the bag, but it has a tag from a cruise ship on the inside.

HOLIDAY UPDATE

The last day to purchase all made to order bags (leather bags & men's bags) for guaranteed arrival by Christmas is Friday December 2. So get those orders in soon!

The $50 tote bag sale will start this Friday, November 25, at 8am.
This year the sale is going to be limited to 50 bags.

All of the bags will be constructed out of the same greyish canvas that came from a WWII era Swiss Mountain tent. Each bag will be different and contain unique details from the original tent - numbering, stitching, strips of burlap (as seen in the above bag).

All are lined with a soft brown cotton & have sturdy leather shoulder straps.

We'll update the blog again when the sale starts - but still mark your calendars!

I have been a big fan of OLO fragrances for some time now (Dafne is what I wear every day) and was excited to pick up and try the Argan Oil Hair Tonic on this past Portland visit. And I must say, it quickly got my unruly locks to do exactly what I had been wanting them to do for years. I've used straight Argan oil in the past but this tonic reigns supreme. Plus it smells amazing. Highly recommended!

TRIP PT 3: NORTHERN CA COAST

We left Big Sur and headed up the coast. Stopped briefly in San Francisco for some burritos, Tartine baked goods, and a look around Unionmade. Stayed the night north of San Francisco and then spent the next few days doing an insane amount of driving.
The coast north of San Francisco was one of my favorite parts of the trip. I couldn't get over the continuous beautiful farm land on one side of the road and the Pacific ocean on the other. We stopped periodically to take photos and eat snacks and one of the state parks we visited had the most vibrantly colored succulents leading up to the beach. Couldn't stop taking photos.

Our drive for that day ended just outside of Humbolt Redwoods State Park and we stayed in a small cabin surrounded by giant trees. The following day we headed out towards Portland, OR with a few stops along the way. Fern Canyon (Thank you Megan for the suggestion!) was most definitely the highlight. And then after way too many hours of driving and my first fast food meal in 17 years we made it to Portland!

TRIP PT 2: BIG SUR

After making our way up the coast from LA we stopped in Big Sur for a few days. It quickly became one of the highlights of our trip. Best part was staying in an off the grid trailer on the side of a mountain with views overlooking a beautiful canyon and the pacific ocean.

We did some hiking around a few of the national parks & then all around the land where we were staying, saw dolphins, ate incredible pastries at the Big Sur Bakery, cooked a few delicious meals in our little trailer, enjoyed the amazing little bath house next to the trailer, and planned the next time we could get back there. Still so much to explore.

TRIP PT 1: PALM SPRINGS & LA

Our trip started off at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs where we did pretty much nothing .. laid by a pool and drank frozen mai tais, went swimming, I read a cool suspense novel that I bought at Walgreens.. pretty much just forced ourselves to relax. Followed the next day by a trip to Joshua Tree National Park. Neither of us had been to the desert before (and this was Aaron's first West Coast trip) so we were pretty mindblown by the park.

Then we spent the next few days in LA/Santa Monica with good friends who moved out there a few months ago. Mostly just wandered around the city, ate delicious tacos, saw a really great exhibit at the LACMA, and basked in the most perfect weather we could have asked for.

We're back from vacation! Thanks to all who made orders while we were away.
The shop has just been updated with a whole slew of new bags and there will be more new items to come later on this week.

We're not participating in any holiday markets this season so all attention will be focused on the online shop. We'll be putting as many new bags as possible in the shop every week as well as offering a variety of specials & sales. Look for a new limited edition pouch within the next few weeks and the annual $50 tote bag sale at the end of November!

We had the best time ever on our trip & took so many photos. I'm going to split things up into a few different posts so you don't get completely overwhelmed with my janky iphone photos.

VINTAGE LINESMAN BAG

Found this 1950's or 60's era Bell System linesman tool bag this past weekend. Has real nice leather handles & strap closure and is made out of a PVC coated vinyl (commonly mistaken for leather). Was used by telephone repair men to haul their tools. Has 2 metal D rings on either side of the opening where a shoulder strap could be attached.

This bag is super sturdy and in perfect condition. Plus it's just real nice looking. But alas I do not need another vintage tool bag .. so I just listed it on eBay. It's available here if you're interested.

It was a pretty dreary weekend here in New England .. thankfully the hurricane didn't hit Boston as hard as was predicted .. but I spent a lot of time indoors getting work done .. mostly packaging up orders & finishing my new website (which should be ready to launch real soon!). Also distracted myself by a cute puppy and tattooing small circles on my fingers.

Spent the weekend at a buddy's cabin in the woods of VT. Lots of walking through hilltop meadows, eating delicious food & sitting around drinking coffee with pals. Going up there always makes me that much more motivated to finally find some land of my own...
